Andrew Fenton

Andrew Fenton, CIO,
NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence)

With a BA Hons in Graphic Design, Andrew began his career in 1981 with London book design and packaging firm Quarto. In 1981 he moved to Cambridge with local design agency Optimus where he was senior designer for the launch of the BBC Microcomputer and Philips first mobile phone in the UK. In 1983 Andrew started his own creative agency– Chameleon – which he ran as owner manager for 20 years until the business was acquired in 2003 by Saatchi Group.

At the time of the acquisition, his company (which had changed name to Unity) had been based in Cambridge for 15 years and had built up substantial internet business in the public and health sectors. Andrew had developed his consultancy business in the health sector with both Pharmaceutical companies and the NHS. Andrew became Director of Interactive at the London agency and was involved in many global, EMEA and UK integrated and digital accounts with clients such as Toyota, Cereal Partners, P&G and The Royal Navy.

He left Saatchi Group in 2005 to pursue a new career in the public health sector – working as Head of New Media Operations at NHS Direct until 2007, then as a new service development consultant for NHS Choices and in 2008 joining NICE as CTO to develop and launch NHS Evidence – then becoming CIO in 2010 with responsibility for the NICE digital transformation programme.
